Will soll den Eingang bewachen und Saf und Henry den Sarkophag in Position bringen.

Safiya hat durch Aapeps Zauber in der Lagerhalle starken Husten bekommen. Theo will sie heilen, doch mit dem Zauberspruch geht etwas schief und beide finden sich im anderen Körper wieder. Safiya wird zu Theo und umgekehrt. So muss Safyia mit ansehen, wie Theo die wenige Zeit mit ihren Eltern verbringen darf, die zu einem Kurzbesuch in London eingetroffen sind.

Theo, Henry, Safiya und Will rätseln, was Aapep jetzt vorhat. Theo glaubt, dass er, wie eine Batterie, seine Energie aufladen muss und dafür magische Artefakte benötigt. Deshalb lässt Aapep die Artefakte aus den Museen stehlen. Das seiner Magie beraubte Unsichtbarkeitsseil bestätigt ihre Vermutung.

Der französische Bildhauer Auguste Bartholdi tourt durch die Vereinigten Staaten, um Geld für sein neuestes Projekt zu sammeln: die Freiheitsstatue! Doch der Gefängnisdirektor Abraham Locker will auf der Felseninsel vor New York lieber ein ausbruchsicheres Gefängnis bauen und sabotiert Bartholdis Pläne, wo er kann. Zum Glück hält Lucky Luke seine schützende Hand über den Franzosen. Deshalb soll er ihn auch nach Europa begleiten, um den Transport der Statue nach Amerika zu sichern.

Im Gefängnis erhalten die Daltons Post von einem Notar: Das Gaunerquartett soll sich um "Junior", einen entfernten Neffen, kümmern! Unser Held lehnt die Aufgabe zunächst rundheraus ab, doch die Chance, Junior womöglich zu einem guten Menschen zu erziehen, reizt ihn am Ende doch. Und so begleitet er Junior und die Daltons nach Texas, wo sie in einem feudalen Haus unterkommen, das Juniors Mutter angemietet hat. Hier entpuppt sich der Kleine als wahrer Satansbraten, und auch Joe Dalton hat keine Lust, sich Luke unterzuordnen.
