Very pleasantly surprised.
I was never particularly interested in Lorgar / the word bearers but this book has 100% changed my mind. 10/10.

If the purpose of this book was to cement my hatred for Lorgar and make me believe the Word Bearers got what they deserved in the Scouring, it succeeded.

Have to take away a point for writing Guilliman and the Emperor like idiots though.

so many of the horus heresy books are great but this really is excellent. the word bearers are explained and the story continues to unfold. great book.

First book I've bought since I was a kid. Can safely say The First Heretic did not dissapoint! Great place to start when exploring the chaos history of 40k.
Gareth Armstrong did an amazing job of narration and felt like the perfect fit for Argal Tal.
