My earliest recollection of being enthralled by science fiction was watching a movie called "X-15" with my Dad and older brother. We sat around a small TV in our linoleum floor apartment, but the sights and sounds of an X-15 streaking through the stratosphere took me away. "X-15" told the story of a real NASA program, so I suppose it doesn't even qualify as sci-fi. But that black stiletto rocket plane fired a lot of dreams, and as I discovered science fiction cinema - Robinson Crusoe on Mars, 2001, Marooned, Star Trek, and so many other 1950's/60's space adventures - I was hooked. Hoping real life would mirror a Star Trek episode or a Forbidden Planet adventure, I joined the Air Force. I did get to see a few test pilot legends at Edwards AFB (former X-15 driver Scott Crossfield once passed my '63 Cadillac in his Corvette), but instead of a startship, I flew the B-52 (without an X-15) and did a few years as a T-38 IP. I left the USAF to write spec screenplays in Hollywood. A few thousand pages later, I began to write books. "Vaka Sevah" is my first series, "Black Phantom Dogs is the second," and together with "A Bloody Oblivion," they comprise "The Galactic Trilogy." "Black Phantom Dogs" will be released in 2026. "A Bloody Oblivion," the title that completes the series, will follow 8 - 12 months later. Taken together, they explore, through different points of view, the recent rash of inexplicable UFO/UAP encounters. My goal is to keep everything scientifically grounded. However, when multiple lines of evidence (radar, thermal sensors, enormous numbers of eyewitness accounts) confirm the existence of various craft with acceleration abilities far beyond anything we can build? Our science may stand on shaky ground. More science fiction novels to come, and besides the feeling of being "taken away," I also hope to leave you with one lingering thought: Some of these people, a few of these worlds and events . . .were these stories more real than not?
