Brent van Staalduinen is the award-winning author of Saints, Unexpected, an urban novel of magical realism, and the recipient of the Bristol Short Story Prize, The Fiddlehead Best Short Story Award, The Writer Magazine’s “Our Darkest Hours” prize, and the Short Works Prize. His stories have been recommended for a National Magazine Award, twice longlisted for the CBC Literary Awards, twice nominated for the Writers’ Trust of Canada McLelland & Stewart Journey Prize, and can be found in such notable publications as The Writer, The Fiddlehead, The New Quarterly, The Sycamore Review, Prairie Fire, Litro Magazine, Riddle Fence, EVENT, The Dalhousie Review, The Puritan, and elsewhere. After more a decade of teaching high school literature and writing, he now puts his MFA in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia to good use in the writing program at Redeemer University College. He lives and finds his voice in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
