Betsy James is the author-illustrator of many books, both fiction and nonfiction, for adults, young adults, and children. The setting of her most recent novel, Practicing to Be Lightning, is based on three decades of hiking the backcountry in desert New Mexico. She has a new poetry collection, Infinite and Dangerous and Bright, and her novel, Roadsouls, was a finalist for the World Fantasy Award. She also paints--she is represented by Matteucci Gallery, Santa Fe--and leads a writers’ workshop in speculative fiction for the University of New Mexico Honors College. She lives in Albuquerque’s North Valley.
