Moss and the crew are reveling in their recent success when a cryptic message changes everything. Moss enters a virtual realm to recover the message before returning to the real world to find everything has changed. With his friends in peril, he undertakes a rescue mission outside the relative safety of the city.

The Sectiaan invasion has begun, and the Consortium wasn't ready. Major worlds are falling daily to the aliens' superior technology. Even Hank's coalition of Peacers, Inquisitors, and soldiers can barely slow their advance. When the aliens demonstrate their ability to control organic minds, the situation becomes truly desperate. As Emortium itself comes under attack, Hank realizes that everything they learned fighting Twain might not be enough. Some enemies can't be beaten with conventional tactics, and some wars can't be won with force alone.

The crew have found Codename: Extinction but destroying it will be no easy matter. The Consortium government are wasting time arguing about what to do next and Hank knows that the only course of action is to take matters into his own hands. But he can't do it alone. In addition to his crew, he will need a larger fighting force. And he knows just where to look. But bringing together disparate rebel sects will be no easy task and even if he does, the ancient enemy has plans of his own.

After Imogen takes drastic action, Hank is forced to grapple with his role as a leader and make some tough choices. These decisions lead him to the financial center of the universe where wealth and poverty clash. Danger is everywhere and nothing comes easy. But he is also moving up through the ranks as a bounty hunter and has some new leads that will bring him ever closer to Codename: Extinction.

More tragic loss has devastated the crew, but they finally have proof that the companies have been lying to the world. In order to spread the word, Moss must come up with a plan without two of his closest friends. But before he can infiltrate the largest entertainment conglomerate and tell everyone the damning truth, he must unravel a mystery that threatens to end his rebellion for good. Things aren’t what they seem and as they get closer to finding their enemy, Moss’ friends find themselves in grave danger.

Twain has made his move and the invasion has begun. As the Disciples invade many planets in several systems, Hank hopes that the united species will be able to hold out long enough for his counter-attack. The crew go on one last desperate quest to find Twain's location and discover a new way to fight back. But even if they survive, they will need all their friends and allies to bring the fight to Twain. Will Hank and the crew last long enough to stop Twain or will the Enemy AI finally take control of the universe once and for all?

Moss is in grave danger. The fate of his fight is in peril. With only a computer program in his mind that he does not fully understand and his cunning, Moss must find his way. The journey is fraught as new friends and old foes await him in a strange new land. Determined to turn the tables, Moss embarks on an odyssey of self-discovery. The lines between real and false are increasingly blurred and new challenges face him at every turn.
