"How to Get What You Want" is an essay by the motivational author Wallace D Wattles. Wattles explains that getting what you want is success, and success is an effect that results from the application of a cause. Success is essentially the same in all spheres; the only difference is in the things that successful people want, but not in the nature or cause of success. Success is attainment, whether it results in the attainment of health, wealth, or position.

Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev (1818-1883) was a Russian author, translator, and popularizer of Russian literature in the West. The author quotes from scripture to show that he was educated, that he had a commanding presence, and that he was not humble in the way the church portrays him.
