The Count of Monte Cristo follows the sailor Edmond Dantès, who is falsely accused of treason on his wedding day and then imprisoned in an infamous island fortress without a trial. Fellow prisoner Abbé Faria takes Edmond under his wing, mentoring him, teaching him to read, and eventually revealing a secret to him: the secret of a treasure hidden on the island of Monte Cristo.
