Henry è diretto verso il Continente, quando fa un incidente con un altro treno merci a causa di un semaforo guasto. Inizialmente Sir Topham incarica James di sostituire la povera locomotiva infortunata, ma Thomas non vuole lasciarsi scappare quest'occasione di uscire dall'Isola di Sodor. Il mattino seguente si reca quindi a prelevare le carrozze al posto di James e si avvia verso il Continente, pronto per una nuova avventura! Non conoscendo la strada, si ferma a chiedere informazioni a una gru di nome Beresford e a delle locomotive sperimentali, che però non sanno come aiutarlo.

In "In corsa verso il Castello di Callan" Spencer ha un incarico speciale: accompagnare il Duca e la Duchessa di Boxford al Castello di Callan, in occasione del ballo per il compleanno di Lord Callan. Presto, però, la locomotiva ha un guasto. Per fortuna, Thomas si trova a passare di là e offre il suo aiuto ai due nobili.
