In 41 CE, Rome did something unexpected. It made an emperor out of a man who had spent most of his life being ignored. That man was Claudius. Apr 6 2026
By the early twentieth century, rugby was not simply popular in Wales. It was emotional infrastructure. It was civic ritual. And in 1905 a game between Wales and New Zealand would set Rugby Union at the heart of Welsh national pride. • Roman Britain Episode 7 - Britannia Divisa
    Mar 16 2026
Because we have so little written history it might seem that Britain was relatively static in the Iron Age. Britain, however, was not frozen in time. It was dynamic. And that dynamism, that competition between kingdoms and elites, created the conditions that made Roman intervention possible. There has obviously been a lot of passion and spirit put into the research behind this series. However, it is such a shame that the narrator makes such a hash of pronunciation of common place names and other words. He lived in Wales for a while & I am surprised that he did not even pick up how the very common names and words were spoken - Welsh/Cymraeg is from an oral tradition and to make such a mess of the spoken language sadly renders this unlistenable.

Passionately researched but ..... unlistenable ....
