About this listen

Hey there — I’m Steve Campbell. I’m a husband, dad to four amazing kids, follower of Jesus, and someone who wakes up every day wanting to help people live with more clarity, courage, and purpose. Life has taught me that faith isn’t just something you talk about — it’s something you live, wrestle with, and anchor everything to. My relationship with Jesus shapes how I love my family, how I lead, how I speak, and how I show up for others. Every podcast, conversation, and connection I make starts there — from a place of grace, humility, and hope. My Heart Behind The One Big Thing I started The One Big Thing podcast because I believe each of us is created on purpose and for a purpose. We all carry something unique that can make a difference — not someday, but right now. Through the stories, lessons, and conversations on the podcast, my prayer is that you’ll discover the spark God placed in you and feel encouraged to take your next faithful step. I don’t have all the answers — but I’ve learned that when you stay close to Jesus, stay curious, and keep moving forward, amazing things can unfold.© 2023 Steve Campbell Christianity Personal Development Personal Success Spirituality

  • What Jesus Is Teaching Us Through Suffering — with Jake Kauffman
    Apr 15 2026

This episode marks a brand-new chapter for The One Big Thing. From here on out, every conversation will center on faith — on what Jesus is teaching us in this season of life.

I couldn’t think of a better person to start this new direction with than my friend Jake Kauffman.

Jake and I go deep on something that every believer eventually faces: the role of suffering and dependence in our walk with Jesus. We talk about what it means to trust God when life unravels, why true transformation often comes through pain, and how the wilderness seasons of life can actually draw us closer to Him.

You’ll hear Jake share his story of loss, healing, and renewal — and how God met him in the middle of it. We explore what spiritual maturity really looks like, the beauty of surrender, and why God’s favor often shows up in ways we don’t expect.

If you’re walking through a hard season or wondering where God is in the middle of your struggle, I want you to know — you’re not alone. God’s not done with you. Your story is still being written.

Listen in and be encouraged — Jesus is at work in your life too.

  • Justin Masterson on Emotional Maturity, Leadership, and Living with Intention
    Jul 16 2025

In this episode of The One Big Thing, I had the privilege of sitting down with former MLB pitcher and current high school coach Justin Masterson. You might know him from his days on the mound with the Red Sox, but what really struck me in our conversation was his heart for people and his deep insights on emotional maturity.

We talked about what it means to grow—not just as a leader or athlete, but as a human being. Justin shared how his definition of maturity has evolved into the ability to handle emotions well, especially in the face of hardship. Whether he's coaching teenagers, navigating marriage, or serving in his community, he’s learned that staying relational and grounded is key.

In this episode, we dive into:

    • The emotional weight athletes carry behind the scenes
    • How to lead with empathy and humility in high-pressure environments
    • Practical tools like the “CAKE” acronym and quieting techniques to regulate emotions
    • Why identity and belonging are essential for real transformation
    • Honest stories of failure, forgiveness, and fatherhood

I even share a personal story about a moment I blew it as a dad—and what it taught me about grace, humility, and the power of saying “I’m sorry.”

If you’re someone who wants to grow in emotional intelligence, lead with more compassion, or just be a better version of yourself, this episode is for you. We’re not aiming for perfection—just progress.
