  • Flash Fiction - Tales of Unease (excerpts) by Elizabeth Wilson | Short, eerie, twisted tales
    Apr 17 2026
    A collection of 3 strange micro-tales...

“A just perceptible sigh came from the thing in his hand, and a dark, rich brown powder appeared. Like smoke, it drifted into the air just past his face and blew towards the fence before vanishing…”

In this Flash Fiction Friday episode, we present three short, unsettling tales, each offering a glimpse into something strange, fleeting, and quietly disturbing. Not every horror needs time to unfold, sometimes, a single moment is enough. These bite-sized stories explore the uncanny, the surreal, and the uneasy feeling that something is just slightly… wrong.

If you enjoy this episode, continue your listening with:
Spores (a deeply unsettling story where something unfamiliar begins to take hold)
Folded In (a strange and disorienting tale where reality begins to shift)
The Thing in the Wall (a creeping horror where an entity crosses from imagination into the real world)

  • S02 - Ep11 - The Swaying Woman of Skelton Wharf by Max T. Storey (A ghost story)
    Apr 8 2026
A childhood ghost experience ties into an ghostly encounter decades later...

I cowered beneath the duvet, pulling it up to my nose, my eyes just peeking over the edge as I watched her loom above me. She seemed impossibly tall, towering over me, and for a moment we just stared at each other. A few seconds — but it felt like a lifetime. Then she lifted her veil…”

Hello and welcome, dear listeners, to Haunted UK Fiction – a sister podcast to The Haunted UK which features original flash fiction, short stories, and novellas with paranormal themes. All stories you will hear were written by a collection of talented writers, authors, and storytellers, both independent and professional.

In today’s episode we’ll be reading The Swaying Woman of Skelton Wharf which was sent in to us by Max T. Storey, who based his work on his first paranormal experience – which we won’t go into in depth to avoid spoilers! The first part of this story is based on his experience, whilst part 2 is based on a mixture of people, places, and life choices from both his past and present. He says he did get closure a few years after the events that inspired this story as he gained a better understanding of what he had experienced that night. The Unquiet Journals’ written by Max T. Storey, was released last December and features The Swaying Woman of Skelton Wharf (Extended version) and six other paranormal stories based in the North East of England. Each one is inspired by local stories or elements of his life. Max is also currently working on The Spectral Pastures podcast, a show where he’ll explore visits to haunted locations and their history. Spectral Pastures is due to come out in early 2026.

We truly hope you enjoy this this twisted, haunted tale. If you would like to hear more from Max T. Storey, you can find social media links and contact information below:

  • Flash Fiction - The Ghost on the Staircase by John Gorman (a quick ghostly chill)
    Mar 27 2026
Should people tell their guests about the ghosts lingering in their homes...?

“The staircase was just behind the sofa in the open-plan living room and once, a coat hanger tumbled down the stairs unaided. There was nobody upstairs, however there was a small pile of hangers on the top step and maybe one of them was loose. These odd events I could explain logically. Ghosts don’t exist…”

At first, it’s easy to dismiss a noise, a movement, something slightly out of place. But when the ordinary explanations begin to wear thin, a question starts to form: What if it isn’t nothing? This original paranormal ghost story explores skepticism, subtle hauntings, and the moment when logic is no longer enough.

Flash Fiction Friday – a bite-sized tale designed to unsettle.

If you enjoy this story, continue your listening with:
The Thing in the Wall (a creeping domestic horror where something hidden begins to make itself known)
Helen (Something in the Cellar) (a chilling perspective-driven story where the past refuses to stay quiet)
The Pale One at the Window (a slow-building tale where something familiar begins to feel deeply wrong)

    About the Author
John Gorman is a forensic scientist with a strong grounding in evidence and logic — making his fascination with the unexplained all the more compelling. Inspired by local hauntings in Lancashire and his own experiences, The Ghost on the Staircase marks his first step into supernatural fiction.

    Mar 25 2026
The past does not always stay buried...

When Lisa tried to leave the village to go shopping, she found the turn onto the main road going to Beckworth blocked. The hedges had grown to an enormous size and intertwined themselves over the tarmac like the fingers of two clasping hands. By pushing the leaves aside, she could just see through. Cars were rushing past, but none slowed, and Lisa wondered if Willerby was being forgotten…”

  • S02 - Ep08 - Sukie in the Graveyard by Robert McDermott (a touching ghost story)
    Mar 18 2026
A quiet afternoon in a graveyard becomes something lasting and bittersweet...

“What struck me about the cemetery, aside from the pounding heat, was the serene atmosphere. There was a keenly felt tranquillity to the place which enhanced every aspect of the experience. The definition on the faces of the strikingly realistic statues, the stately mausoleums and the vividness of the ivy snaking up the ornate crypts like verdant tattoos gave the place a sense of life. It was surreal and difficult to articulate. This was a place existing in the space between both words and worlds…”
