About this listen

When Dr. Neel was walking around, pondering the challenges that seem to be running rampant in our era - feeding issues with infants, airway issues with kids and adults, and tension in seemingly everyone's nervous systems and bodies, he uttered aloud the question, "How are we going to help everyone go from a compromised airway to an alchemized airway?" And once he said that aloud, his wife suggested omitting the word "airway" to broaden the phrase, and it resonated. It's the homage to Paulo Coelho's brilliant book, The Alchemist, that of alchemy, that seems fitting in characterizing this journey many families seem to find themselves on. It's a rigorous process at times to access healing and a non-linear one. This lead-turning-into-gold process can be daunting, and it takes a village. On this podcast, Dr. Neel carries engaging conversations with healers who have guided others through challenging moments - ones that can hold the paradoxical tension of pain and joy all at once. In the 1st season, Dr. Neel focused on interviewing experts in the fields of birth psychology and embodied embryology, and in the 2nd season, he focuses on those who journey with families from birth onward.Copyright 2026 Dr. Neel Bulchandani Alternative & Complementary Medicine Hygiene & Healthy Living Physical Illness & Disease

  • 74. The Alchemy of Presence with Michael Gungor
    Apr 22 2026
In this episode, Michael Gungor (musician, author, and philosopher) joins me, Dr. Neel Bulchandani, to discuss the subtleties and layers of creative and spiritual life. From the "Eddies" of our personality to the "Hurricane" of our emotions, Michael and I explore how to move from a state of lack and "torsional debt" into a life of integrated presence. This episode explores the intersection of music, the Enneagram, somatic healing, and the profound simplicity of "being here."Michael Gungor is a creative mystic living in Pasadena, California. Primarily known for his music, Gungor is the co-founder and primary songwriter of the eclectic indie band Gungor. The group's acclaimed albums blend elements of folk, rock, electronic, and world music, with Gungor's thoughtful, introspective lyrics exploring the divinity of the human experience.Gungor began his musical career writing worship music for the church, inspired by his Christian upbringing. However, as his own spiritual perspective expanded and evolved, so too did his artistic experimentation. Aside from his work under his musical moniker, Gungor, Michael has also released three ambient instrumental albums with his friend and bandmate Tyler Chester as “On Earth”, as well as an experimental side project called “Weiwu.”Beyond his music, Gungor is also the co-founder of the popular The Liturgists podcast, which brings together diverse guests for honest, thought-provoking conversations about faith, science, art, and the nature of the divine. He also has a second podcast exclusively focused on non dual spirituality called “Loving This.”In addition to his musical and podcast endeavors, Gungor has co-written songs for other artists, produced records, and created music for film and television. He is also an author, having published a book in 2010 titled "THIS: Becoming Free."An acclaimed live performer, Gungor and his band have toured extensively, building a devoted fanbase around the world. His music has earned him multiple Grammy nominations and numerous other accolades, cementing his status as a unique and influential creative force.Time Stamp00:00:00 | Introduction + New Intro Music00:06:44 | The meaning of my name Neel.00:12:01 | I share how I used the Enneagram somatically to help people move through integration and disintegration points during my intuitive movement practices.00:15:52 | Michael describes Enneagram numbers not as who we are, but as "swirls" or patterns in a river that keep us safe and help us feel in control and more about our wounds.00:24:31 | Instead of trying to escape the storm, Michael suggests moving deeper into it to find the stillness in the eye.00:32:35 | When we identify as the "imaginary guy" in the future (seeking followers, money, or love), we lose the ability to enjoy the current moment.00:39:22 | Michael shares his perspective on the meaning of the word “here”.00:52:18 | True poetry is alive.00:56:30 | I reflect on Michael’s episode with Pete Holmes, Ryan O’Neal and Rob Bell01:05:49 | How to explore silence and no longer feel threatened by discomfort.01:16:59 | Coping mechanisms are sophisticated and there to help you.01:26:44 | Michael’s upcoming tour Mystic Hymnal01:35:01 | The importance of sharing presence in person and Michael’s personal legend.01:43:10 | Using the language of Internal Family Systems (IFS), he explains that every part of the psyche—no matter how lost or distorted—deserves to be treated with the love and gentleness one would give a child.01:46:00 | Michael’s legend: “The Open Hand Method”02:55:32 | The FULL SONG Smokeless FireConnect with MichaelInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/michaelgungor/Website: https://www.michaelgungor.com/Loving this Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/magnificat-smokeless-fire/id1448995509?i=1000726099164YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@gungormusicMentions & ResourcesThe Enneagram: Focusing on Type 5 (The Investigator) and Type 4 (The Individualist).Ryan O'Neal (Sleeping at Last): Discussed as a fellow Enneagram explorer and artist.Pete Holmes: Mentioned in relation to a formative podcast moment (explicit content).🎵 like the music? • 73. How to Align Consciousness with Unconsciousness with Jesse Coomer
    Apr 15 2026
In this long awaited episode of the Compromised to Alchemized podcast, I sit down with breathwork expert and author Jesse Coomer to explore the "anatomy of consciousness" and the evolution of human connection. As "Xennials," we look back at the technological shift of the late '90s, the Y2K hysteria, and how growing up in a world of dial-up modems shaped their unconscious perspective on change and resilience. We dive deep into the "inner universe," discussing the relationship between the conscious and unconscious mind, and why getting to know yourself often requires a circle of honest friends. We explore the massive shifts in human history, from the discovery of fire to the rise of artificial intelligence. When we invented fire, we outsourced digestion. By cooking our food, we freed up biological energy, altered our facial structures, and created the "lunch hour"—ultimately building civilization in the time we used to spend chewing. Now, as "Xennials" standing on the precipice of the AI revolution, we are undergoing a second great outsourcing: The outsourcing of thinking. Jesse discusses the critical need for a new "language of breath" to keep our conscious and unconscious minds in alignment. We transcend the mechanics of the body to explore the vast "emotional landscape" of human potential. Jesse delves into his "Personal Legend"—a concept inspired by Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist—revealing that his purpose isn’t to be the hero of the story, but the "Yoda" or "Big Brother" who guides others to their own treasure.Jesse Coomer is a renowned breathwork authority, founder of the Breathwork Tactics program, author of numerous influential breathwork books, educational Youtuber, and as co-founder & lead faculty at The Language of Breath Breathworker School, he trains future breathwork coaches.Jesse’s scientifically grounded approach to breath training caters to a diverse audience, including first responders, athletes, and CEOs. His programs enhance focus, decision-making, and overall well-being, offering specialized techniques for stress management, performance improvement, and recovery. His evidence-based methods set a high standard in breathwork, reflecting a commitment to excellence that has profoundly impacted countless lives, helping individuals achieve both personal and professional success.Time Stamps 00:00:00 | Introduction00:06:25 | The origin story of The Breathwork Channel00:15:36 | The anatomy of consciousness and is AI capable of the different levels00:25:50 | The dot com bubble and its effect on consciousness00:31:09 | Treating AI like fire, it is beneficial and dangerous00:44:14 | The difference between consciousness and unconsciousness00:57:30 | How to align consciousness and unconsciousness01:05:30 | Jesse’s Personal Legend01:14:42 | Jesse’s keys to knowing he is on the right path01:32:10 | What Jesse’s 95 year old self would say to himConnect with JesseInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/jessecoomerbreath/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/JesseCoomerWebsite:https://www.jessecoomer.com/The Language of Breath Collective: https://languageofbreathcollective.com/homeBreath Work Tactics: https://breathworktactics.com/🎵 like the music?
