The church becomes more like Jesus when it makes room at the table for all of God's creation and for grace, justice, healing, and true belonging. In a world that labels, excludes, and condemns, Christ invites us into a wider table where mercy restores dignity and grace changes lives.

  • What Goes Up Must Come Down
    May 18 2026

We are meant to find hope and comfort in Jesus, but we are not meant to be complacent in our faith. Jesus’ resurection meant that it was time for the disciples to stop following and get to work spreading the Gospel message.

Jesus’ departure enabled the disciples to get started.

If Jesus had not arose, he could not come back.

While we find hope and comfort in the promise that we are in this world but not of it, we must also find the courage to complete the work that the disciples began which is yet unfinished.

The Ascension also reminds us that Christ’s work continues through His people.

The church does not exist merely to remember Jesus.

The church exists to live out His mission.

Faith is not about staring at the sky, waiting for heaven. It is about loving our neighbors, serving our communities, and sharing hope in a weary world.

Christ is lifted up in heaven. The disciples’ eyes were opened.

And the church is sent out on earth.

    Reflection Questions

    * What does the Ascension of Jesus reveal about Christ’s authority and reign today?

    * In what ways might we sometimes focus on “looking up” instead of living out our faith?

    * How does Jesus’ prayer in John 17 shape our understanding of the church’s mission?

    * Where do you see opportunities to serve and share the gospel in your daily life?

    * What might it look like for you personally to live as someone who is “sent out” this week?
