Gordon's name was a joke.

It was given to him by Anthony Zola, a controlling, and abusive father, to taunt his wife over her love of cheese, and the fact that she had been steadily gaining weight since their marriage.

Andrea was a doting mother, and maybe a little overprotective of her boy, but she didn't see that as a bad thing.

On discovering a secret, one the child had been told to keep to himself, everything changes. Now she must do whatever she needs to keep her, and her boy, alive.

Needs must.

Gordon is going to find that his love of cheese, handed down to him by his mother, and his love for the only woman in his life, is about to be taken to a whole new level.

From the dark mind of D E McCluskey, author of The Twelve, CRACK, and Cravings, Comes another addition to his 'Extreme Horror Series'.

The legendary Zola...Although it has the reputation as the funny cheese book, there is an underlying tragedy to its story which is rarely acknowledged. The first act has some truly harrowing scenes, and it only gets worse from there.

The audiobook version is narrated by Lila Kerry and it is an excellent performance, really emphasising the heartbreaking sadness and desperation.

And then there is the star of the show, the gimmick, the unique selling point: the cheese.

As with most books in the genre, this isn't for anybody who takes themselves too seriously or demands high literature from their extreme horror...but if you want a unique gross-out novella so disgusting that it becomes a full-on sensory experience, Zola is one of a kind.

A nauseating modern classic finally gets an audiobook!

I thought the book was bad enough but the narrator really brings it to life. I nearly threw up in the bath. I've never looked at cheese the same way again but now I've heard it I feel a lot more empathy with poor Gordon. I recommend this so much

What the fuck.. did I just read!?

My senses have never felt so violated 😅 This book was absolutely DISGUSTING. I have a very strong stomach and rarely am affected by descriptions of this kind of filth but this was taken up way too many notches 😆

Imagine reading about some of the worst smells you can think of.. then add them all together and think of someone eating it... done it? Now you know how I feel. You're welcome!

Gross depravity aside, it was well written, and I loved the story. Trauma, a mother's love and shit marinated thigh meat.. so heartwarming ❤️😂

Loved it!

Lovely and gross 😆

* Audible ARC* just want to start this by saying a big thankyou to D E McCluskey for giving me the opportunity to listen to the audiobook of Zola in return for an honest review

Firstly, the audio was narrated perfectly by Lila Kerry and she definitely has an iron stomach reading that without so much as a small retch!

Now this book was the perfect mini horror/splatterpunk novella! It was so gruesome and descriptive I felt like I could taste and smell everything it was deliciously disgusting!

This book never failed to make me giggle and feel sick at the same time, true mastery of the emotions!

What I really enjoyed with this novella is the horror being mixed with abit of heart, my heart blead for Gordon, poor little Gordon! I actually had a lot of empathy for him growing up in such a deranged household which made the ending all the more comforting, adult Gordon was a difficult read in regards to his feeling for his mother but I feel like it made the story more realistic in the deprival of it all, he truly was such a lost little boy even as an adult!

Brilliant read and highly recommend if you have a strong stomach!

Anyone else craving a cheese steak or is that just me?!
