'My name is Natalie Heller Mills, and I was perfect at being alive…'

Natalie lives a traditional lifestyle – and her followers are sick with envy. Her charming farmhouse on her working ranch is artfully cluttered, her husband is a handsome cowboy, her homemade sourdough boules are each more beautiful than the last. So what if there are nannies and producers and industrial-grade ovens behind the scenes? What her followers don’t know won’t hurt them.

Then, one morning, Natalie wakes up in a strange, horrible version of reality. Her home, her husband, her children—they’re all familiar, but something’s off. Is this a hoax? A reality show? A test from God? Natalie knows just two things for sure: this isn't her perfect life, and she must escape, by any means possible.

As darkly funny as it is shocking and gripping, Yesteryear is an electrifying examination of tradition, fame, faith and the grand performance of womanhood, from a thrilling new talent in fiction.

Yesteryear is one of those rare books that completely pulls you in from the very first page. Just wow. I genuinely could not stop listening—every chapter left me wanting more, making it nearly impossible to pause.

The writing is nothing short of amazing. It feels sharp, intentional, and deeply thoughtful, while also being very reflective of current affairs in a way that resonates without feeling forced. There’s a relevance to the story that lingers long after you’ve put it down.

What truly stands out are the characters. They are incredibly detailed and fully fleshed out, each with their own depth, motivations, and nuances. You don’t just read about them—you understand them, and in many ways, you feel connected to their journeys.

This is a book that stays with you. A must-read for anyone who appreciates powerful storytelling and meaningful themes.

What a fantastic book - I actually don't have the vocabulary to express how clever this book is. It covers so many points on the challenges of the modern feminine. It was challenging, gripping, depressing and at times had me grinning at the honest inner thoughts of the main character.
I read fiction continually so often struggle to find something that is original and unpredictable - but this was brand new.
The narration was also beautifully performed- with her pitch, tone and perfect pauses -you could actually hear the expressions on the characters face!

Unique and utterly gripping
