Summary
I came to Huckleberry Springs to regroup—not to flash a cowboy while rescuing some strays from a ditch. Haven Hennessy is everything I don’t want anyway: A man who puts himself first. A man who’d rather have fun than face commitment. A man who can charm a girl right out of a good decision. So he can kiss my red lace panties goodbye the moment I figure out how to ditch this town.
Yet he takes in the puppy and three kittens I rescue from the side of the road. He’s loyal to his brothers and his company. And he makes it his mission to give me new experiences, like fly-fishing, horseback rides, and getting naked in a tack room.
My stay in this small Montana town is only supposed to be temporary until I can launch a new career. Am I as wrong about that as I am about Haven? Because he makes me feel something no one else ever has: wanted. But the more I get to know Haven, the more I realize I was right all along.
Haven doesn’t let people in. Not fully. Not when he’s spent his whole life being left behind. So when my dream opportunity finally manifests, I have to leave before I break all my rules and my own heart in the process. I don’t dare fall for his whiskey charm.

Marie Hawkins and William Speare are the story tellers, and they are fabulous together. Each brings something to the characters that make them easy to relate to and pull me into their story with that very comfortable feel. The emotions are high as their feeling grow and they deal or not deal with their pasts. A perfectly cast team made this a fabulous listen.
Gotta love a good bourbon!

Haven has a complicated family dynamic when it comes to his mother which has him believing that he is destined to be single. He is happy that his siblings have found their one but he doesn’t see that in his future even though the feelings that he has for Haven is unlike anything he has ever felt before.
Even though they fight it there is no denying the chemistry and connection between Preston and Haven and after what they have experienced in the past it was so rewarding to see them open their hearts and learn to trust each other. The performance by Will Spears allows us to experience the struggle that Haven is having when it comes to his feelings for Preston while Marie Hawkins brings out both the strength and sass of Preston.

I must admit this book hooked me from the start. Prescott and Haven have lots of chemistry and a strong connection. But due to them both having personal struggles, trauma, and fears from their past that they need to work through, they hold off on anything serious and stay friends for a long time. The tension was strong and unmatched 👌 It was so nice seeng them slowly work through said struggles, and see their relationship grow.
This story is a winner in my books. It does well to balance humour, wit, heart/emotions, and angst/drama. This small-town, friends-to-lovers story delivered on all fronts. Providing a romantic, humorous, spicy, emotional, and most of all, engaging and entertaining read/listen.
The duet narrated aided in bringing the story to life. Narrated by Marie Hawkins and Will Speare, they both were excellent at portraying all the emotions, tension, and character needed for this story!
4.5 Stars! Cute and Heartfelt! 💕
