The #1 New York Times bestselling author of modern classics such as My Sister’s Keeper and Small Great Things weaves a “richly textured and engaging” (The Boston Globe) tale that explores what happens when a young woman’s past—a past she didn’t even know she had—catches up to her just in time to threaten her future.

How do you recover the past when it was never yours to lose?

Delia Hopkins has led a charmed life. Raised in rural New Hampshire by her beloved father, she now has a young daughter, a handsome fiancé, and her own search-and-rescue bloodhound, which she uses to find missing persons. But as Delia plans her wedding, she is plagued by flashbacks of a life she can’t recall…until a policeman knocks on her door, revealing a secret about herself that irrevocably changes her life.

With Vanishing Acts, Jodi Picoult explores how life might not always turn out the way we imagined; how the people we love and trust can suddenly change before our very eyes; how vanished memories can evolve into threat. Featuring characters that “resonate with authenticity” (People), Vanishing Acts masterfully explores a serious topic with understanding, insight, and compassion.

Can’t give an opinion on the full story as narration was so awful I could not continue. All narrators had saliva mouths and kept swallowing. YUK

Awful narration

Slow to start, but worth the wait!

Why must my review be a minimum of 15 characters?

Another brilliant story from Jodi Picoult: compelling narrative, well developed characters with a tangible emotional undercurrent that provides for a gripping read. The dialogue is excellent and believable and the multiple perspectives gives the off kilter story real depth. Like all of Picoult's books that I have listened to, the moral dimension makes the stories more vivid leaving traces of the nuances with you long after you have finished reading or listening. I really loved this and look forward to my next one. Highly recommended

Another enthralling court room drama

I am so glad that I have discovered Jodi Picoult's writing because she writes in a very thought provoking way, excellent subject matter and fantastic characters that are believable, likeable and forgivable. But I have really struggled with this book. A little wishy-washy for a lot of the book, with the father being the most interesting of characters. I takes almost until the very last sentence for you to feel it was worth the wait, but I still felt very disgruntled at the feelings I was left with for the main female character, Delia. She proved to be a rather unlikeable person with no sense of understanding at what she has put her partner through. No thanks for the huge sacrifice he has made for her and she has walked through the end of the story leaving a trail of her own mess behind her. The entire story hinges on what people sacrifice for others. Of all the characters, Delia doesn't sacrifice anything for anyone and that makes a mockery of the message. It felt unfinished, left the reader feeling very dissatisfied and made a bit of a mockery of love....bearing in mind the story rolls around that subject in it's entirety. Maybe the author didn't like Delia either...it seems that way as she didn't give her a heart.

Not her best - and rather frustrating.
