Lando Burlington, the eleventh duke of Oxfordshire, is back on the market as England’s most eligible bachelor. It’s a title he’d sooner burn to the ground, especially following the fallout of his ‘almost’ wedding. It doesn’t help that his mother is trying to set him up with every single woman in the country, none of whom he’s interested in. The final straw is when she rents out his former pre-marital home to Holiday Simpson. . . America’s sweetheart and box-office favorite.

Holiday needs a break from the chaos of Hollywood—replacing red carpets for green fields—and Valentine Nook, Oxfordshire, seems just the place to do that.

But she didn’t count on her new landlord. With his piercing blue eyes and hard set jaw, he’s as handsome as he is grumpy. And that’s nothing to say of his bronze, sculpted muscles she wishes she hadn’t noticed when she took a wrong turn down a country lane.

For Lando, avoiding Holiday is impossible in a village as small as Valentine Nook, but he starts to wonder if maybe she’s not as terrible as he originally thought. Especially when she smiles at him.

It doesn’t matter though, Holiday’s visit is temporary. This isn’t the movies. She’s not looking for her one true love, and doesn’t need to be swept off her feet. Except as summer turns to autumn it’s clear they’re going off script, and Lando must find a new ending to their story before it’s too late.

4.25 stars. This one was so so good. The setting was so cute and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. I really enjoyed the male narrator- sometimes narrators have a fake English accent which puts me off but he was perfect for Lando

Amazing start to the series

After meeting the Burlington brothers in Lulu Moore’s fabulous and not to be missed holiday novella, “Once Upon A Christmas Tree”, the “Valentine Nook Chronicles” prequel, I was looking forward to their stories and meeting them again. This first book of the series is Duke Orlando “Lando” Burlington and Hollywood actress Holiday Simpson’s story. Lando is still bitter over the betrayal of his ex fiancé and best friend and is in a perpetual bad mood, a grump through and through. Holiday needed a break from her hectic life and is taking time for herself, spending time across the pond in Valentine Nook, a small town in Oxfordshire, England, renting a countryside cottage. A cottage with a leaky straw roof, and she considered leaving, but opted to stay for the change of pace. First, meeting the welcoming landlord’s sister, who she befriended, and then the grumpy landlord, who was not so welcoming, despite catching him in his birthday suit. Neither knew who the other was, he the duke and her landlord, she a famous Hollywood actress, but there was an attraction there, a chemistry like no other and I loved the banter between them. He avoided her at first, but the draw was too strong, and it was great watching them get to know each other and see them both fall for one another. Except her stay is temporary, and he has responsibilities in Oxfordshire, were they doomed from the start, and how could it possibly work for them? This fabulous slow-burn romance captivated my attention and tugged at my heartstrings the entire time, a wonderfully written and plotted story with the perfect balance of drama, charming and heartwarming moments, humorous moments, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. It was great meeting Lando’s family and seeing his brothers again, too. Lulu Moore, thank you for another fabulous story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 Andi Arndt and James Joseph were fabulous at voicing the characters and delivering a perfect portrayal of each. I loved how they took each role and owned it, sounding believable and just as I imagined the characters to sound. Joseph embodied Lando’s personality completely, perfectly grumpy and then transforming into a sweetheart of a man. Arndt did the same in Holiday’s role and was just as fabulous as Holiday, witty, strong and determined. Both were fantastic at performing the roles of the secondary and side characters, as well as conveying all the character’s emotions, having you feel them all. It is a pleasure to listen to these entertaining storytellers, and their enthralling performance rivets you to the story.

A Delightfully Superb Story & Narration🎧

I did listen to the prequel last year and it was a nice introduction to the family, but not necessary to enjoy this first book of the series.

The setting here, in the English countryside, is perfect and really sets the stage for beautiful romances. The small town itself feels like its own character. Lando and Holiday have such great chemistry. Their banter was so much fun, and I really loved their dynamic when things finally came together. One of my favorite things in a romance is when he falls hard and that is definitely the case with Lando.

Experiencing this in audio was a huge plus. I am a sucker for a main character with an accent, and James Joseph really knocked this one out of the park. Andi Arndt is a long time favorite of mine and she performed her character beautifully. They both did this dual style narration justice.

So excited for the next book!
