About this listen

A Court of Thorns and Roses meets Game of Thrones in the first book in a sensational new romantasy series where a headstrong princess is kidnapped by the alpha of a werewolf clan, leading to all-out war, and forbidden romance...

When a princess is kidnapped by an alpha, war rages between the humans and the wolves. But soon, forbidden attraction starts to grow…

Princess Aurora longs to escape the castle and the marriage that has been arranged for her.

But on the night before her wedding, at a dog fight where captured werewolves are made to fight for sport, she spares the life of a young wolf. It puts her on the radar of the powerful alpha who was going to kill him. And it changes everything.

That night, when the alpha escapes, he kidnaps her and takes her to the rugged lands north of the border—where the once warring werewolf clans are beginning to unite. He thinks that she is the key to winning the war against the humans.

Critic reviews

"Duet narrators Zara Hampton–Brown and Shane East pair well together in this romantasy set in an alternative Scotland. Princess Aurora rejects a loveless betrothal in England, instead making a pact with a Scottish clan leader who is a wolf changeling. Hampton–Brown uses an arch tone and a British accent for Aurora, a jaded campaigner who must quickly absorb the intricacies of pack law. East slips on a growly Scottish accent for Aurora’s wolf compatriot, as well as all the other personalities populating the king’s keep. The pair’s many conversations are seamless in the duet narration. As Aurora and her wolf await King James’s ruling on their pact, Hampton–Brown and East build the political stakes and the undeniable passion between the two, making their love story a wild ride."

Why on earth did you get the female narrator to voice other male characters when you had a male narrator already. Her male voice interpretation was so annoying. You know that bad voice interpretation can kill a good story, right?

Okay but has so much more potential

this book had me swooning from about 5 minutes in. The FMC was very likeable and the descriptions from her point of view were very detailed. The narration was easy to listen too and follow and she has a lovely soft polite voice. As far as the MMC is concerned, where can I get one? I'm about to go out into the Highlands of Scotland and pick me up a Callum. His voice!
Overall it has a very good and enjoyable story with lots of twists and turns. I found I wanted to listen for longer or was eager to get back to listening. It was a good slow burn with notable tension and a great amount of spice when it got going. Also the ending I did not see coming. Chefs kiss from me, and I'm just going to go download The Night Prince.

This is a real page turner with all the romantasy tropes. After reading another wolf themed popular romantasy that just dragged out the obvious MMC and FMC romance, this one just goes straight to it. But with a few twists along the way. The only criticism on the performance is the strange use of Duet style, but only for one of the male characters, this made the other MMC voice a bit jarring.

LOVED the Outlander ACOTAR mash up

This was SO good, but I think the audiobook just topped it as best book of 2026 for me and it’s only January!!

If you liked ACOTAR you’ll like this. Very similar with waring factions (wolf shifters and humans), forced proximity (he kidnaps her), a dark moody mysterious man, a protective loveable man and a sassy female who’s character develops throughout the book.
I enjoyed this, my only gripe is the female narrators voicing male characters particular Blake as it made me cringe (and I love a dark haired moody morally grey character). I don’t understand why they would have a male narrator and only use him for Callum. I can see that the next book has two male narrators one for Blake and one Callum so I’m looking forward to that!

ACOTAR vibes but wolves
