The White People is a pagan classic & Arthur Machen remains very influential- wit all of this going for it, how did this shockingly poor narrator manage to get it all so very wrong?

His speedy pace, dreary, charmless narration & inability to get under the skin of the characters wreck the book.

This needs to be redone by a different narrator.
