No I only listen to books once due to time constraints but there was valuable information in it nonetheless.What did you like best about this story?

I am an atheist/humanist with an interest in history, human psychology, the roots of religions, how they have developed and how they impact the lives of everyone today.
I am respectful of everyone’s freedom of religion, and recognise that on a personal level it can bring comfort and inner strength to cope with life’s difficulties and the uncertainties of death.
I am therefore far less interested in sensationalist content intended primarily to provoke upset and it wasn’t clear what this book was going to provide.
I am therefore pleased to say that I found this book to be very educational, in terms of trying to piece together in a scientific and journalistic manner the life and times of the prophet Muhammad, with direct reference to the Islamic key texts and history, including rival accounts of certain events or messages which co-exist within the body of Islamic records.
If nothing else, the book serves to point to the passages of the Islamic key texts and demonstrates that many of the shocking things done today in the name of Islam in fact are central to the message of Allah, as supposedly channeled into the world via Muhammad, and in fact also follow the example set by Muhammad himself in carrying out his instructions.
I have read many of the 1 star reviews which accuse the book of presenting mistruths, but unfortunately those reviews fail to go into any detail to help someone like me understand the criticism. I am left with the impression that it is easier for some to simply deny the inconvenient truth than to face up to it and consider what it really means to be a Muslim in the 21st century.
I note the book was written in 2006, some 17 years ago, but it could have been written yesterday as the questions it poses are just as pertinent today and remain unanswered.
