About this listen

Constant Marlowe follows a serial killer deep into the dark heart of a small town in this riveting novella by Jeffery Deaver, the New York Times bestselling author of The Broken Doll collection and the Colter Shaw series.

Special Agent Constant Marlowe is tasked with taking over the investigation of an obsessed serial killer trolling the small town of Clark Valley in the quiet—and eerie—plains of the Midwest. Two female victims in quick succession, the same brutal MO, and every indication that victim number three is only days away. Also in the killer’s scope is Constant herself. When she interviews a local family who may be potential witnesses, she leads the devil to their doorstep, throwing their lives into chaos. Constant will do anything to protect them, but it won’t be easy. Because nothing in Clark Valley is quite what it seems.

I usually do not listen to books but liked both the plot and the reading, thank you.

Nicely done

I enjoyed the story despite that I got a bit lost at times. You need to avoid drifting off. Plenty of twists in the tale. I found the ending a bit abrupt but am not sure if I missed a point somewhere. I also enjoyed the performance from the narrator.

Enjoyable listen

A good story that is let down by very disjointed narration. Got a bit confused at times .

Good Plot

I disliked the terrible lack of editing. With such amazing lines as 'the first bullet from the rifle hit him in the head and chest', wow I have to say that's a really clever bullet. And my personal favourite 'she only hit him twice, once in the stomach and once on the jaw as he doubled over, yet she managed break his jaw and two ribs'. Your stomach is not covered by your ribs. Come on editing team do better, this could have been a good story, however it's not and I have wasted 6 hours of my time listening to see if it got any better, it didn't.

Jeffrey Deaver is better than this

I’m a big Jeffrey deaver fan. Tried to listen to this a few times but the narration is awful and now I can’t return the title.
