THEN

Amelie has always been a survivor, from losing her parents as a child in Paris to making it on her own in London. As she builds a career for herself in the magazine industry, she meets, and agrees to marry, Ned Hawthorne.

NOW

Amelie wakes up in a pitch-black room, imprisoned and alone.

Why has she been taken? Who are her mysterious captors? And why does she soon feel safer here than she had begun to feel with her husband?

In true B.A. Paris style, The Prisoner is a gripping survival story, a twisted tale of love and at its dark heart a thriller to keep you up all night.

Critic reviews

With twists and turns aplenty, scandal, mystery and a strong protagonist, this thriller will keep the reader guessing until the very last page!
Fans of the author will be enthralled by this. I loved the short chapters in part one, which really added to the rising tension
Elegant, taut, ingeniously plotted and extremely addictive. Superb!
Dark and compulsive . . . B.A. Paris again conjures up the tense claustrophobia of Behind Closed Doors and delivers yet another brilliant, unputdownable read
Wow! What a ride! A tantalising, taut, tense thriller
Dark, daring and irresistible. B.A. Paris takes a clever, sinister survival story and further elevates it with her trademark style and heart. Truly impossible to put down
Pacy, gripping from the get-go, and with so many twists! I felt so strongly for Amelie and was rooting for her the entire book. The Prisoner is a brilliant addition to B.A. Paris's stella stable of thrillers
Intense and gripping, The Prisoner is suffused with intrigue and menace
Clever, twisty and unusual
Taut, suspenseful, loaded with twists and surprises, and the true definition of a just-one-more-chapter page-turner. It's another B.A. Paris triumph - complex, compelling and absolutely impossible to resist
So utterly gripping I finished it in one heart-racing afternoon. Clobbered me from the first page and kept me hostage until I'd turned the last
This web of fear and lies is much more complex, satisfyingly so, than Room, involving many more characters, intricate plotting, and layers of subterfuge. Paris's fans won't be disappointed and readers new to the author will be hooked
The explosive start of this book sets up a compelling plot [...] written in well-executed super-edgy, short, sharp chapters and the description of her confinement is full of claustrophobic detail and menace
It's a rollercoaster ride, with plenty of twists
Book of the Month: chilling, intense and frightening in places, you'll be left wondering what is real and what isn't
Chilling, intense and downright frightening in places
Pulse pounding
Another nail-biting thriller. A gripping and twisted love story
A dark, gripping story
Punchy chapters ramp up the suspense
Paris skilfully stitches together domestic noir with a kidnap thriller and the result is a gripping read
The tension is electric
This has the best opening scene of any thriller this year. Thoughtful and surprising writing

Enjoyed but felt at times it focused on certain things for a very long time and then suddenly rather than you working things out for your self through clues you are just told everything at once. Abrupt end. Didn’t not enjoy and I wanted to keep listening but left wanting more from it.

Twists and turns but not completely unpredictable

The story line was good but I think the chapters were too short, and the ending was rubbish.

Quite a good read

Personal thing but I found the narrator irritating when she was being Ned which distracted me. The story line was ok but was glad to get to the end of the book.

Ok

Not her best though, wasn’t as gripped as I normally am with BA Paris - worth the read though.

Love BA Paris

The rapid change from Past to Present maintaining concentration and interest. The doubling of the ransom( starting with £1 ) on a daily basis , very clever. Narration on so many characters good. She even made the male voices (difficult) believable.

Great story line.
