About this listen

Karen Hamilton's THE PERFECT GIRLFRIEND is a frightening depiction of unbridled obsession, where love and pure hatred grapple on a knife edge. The perfect new psychological thriller for fans of The Girl on the Train and Gone Girl.

Juliette loves Nate.
She will follow him anywhere. She's even become a flight
attendant for his airline, so she can keep a closer eye on him.

They are meant to be.
The fact that Nate broke up with her six months ago means nothing.
Because Juliette has a plan to win him back.

She is the perfect girlfriend.
And she'll make sure no one stops her from
getting exactly what she wants.

True love hurts, but Juliette knows it's worth all the pain...

Critic reviews

So addictive it should come with a warning (Alice Feeney, author of Sometimes I Lie)
One of the best twisted narrators I've ever read. Perfect indeed! (C.J. Tudor, author of The Chalk Man)
I genuinely couldn't put it down - Juliette is such a compelling character. Totally gripping and thrillingly different. I loved it (Laura Marshall, author of Friend Request)
Brilliant and terrifying (Fiona Cummins, author of Rattle)

What made the experience of listening to The Perfect Girlfriend the most enjoyable?

Revenge - executed so perfectly :)

What other book might you compare The Perfect Girlfriend to, and why?

The Girlfriend - same kind of storyline.

Have you listened to any of Anna Friel’s other performances? How does this one compare?

She's a bit like Marmite, like or loathe. Personally, I got used to the pauses, lip-smacking etc, it went well with the character.

Any additional comments?

I thought this was a great story but the narration really spoilt it for me. I love Anna Friel as an actress but I don't feel her style works as an audio narrator. She seemed bored during most of the book and gave the impression that she just wanted to get it over with, I also found the gulps of breath very distracting. Generally the plot was good psycho stalker girlfriend, and I enjoyed the behind the scenes airline bits. I think the characters could have been better developed they seemed a little one dimensional. The ending was a little far fetched but quite entertaining with a good twist.

Good story spoilt by poor narration

I realise the irony in the title for an audio book but this was gripping - I do a lot of driving and it made me want to keep doing more!!
Anna Friel voicing was an added bonus as she was so good, I just kept shouting at the stereo as I couldn't believe what was next.

Now don’t get me wrong I like Anna Friel and feel she’s a very talented actress but listening to this story was like sitting next to a noisy eater!
It sounded like she was drinking a cup of tea and chewing a sandwich whilst reading!
However if I didn’t concentrate too hard on the weird saliva type noises and saw past this it was a good story!
Sorry Anna! I nearly gave up but was glad I persevered in the end.

Ruined by narration

Already a massive fan of Anna ..
But this book was amazing and captivating.
I literally would listen every time in the car -
Even go the longer way home so I could listen more.
Fantastic twists and turns.
You won’t regret this book.
Anna please please do more narrating.

Anna Friel truly captures you and draws you into this book.
