Beautiful

I enjoyed it, having read the book I knew what to expect.
What I must say is that she’s no gardener, and makes the most glaring errors. I expect an author of her calibre to at least research the subject properly.

A RELAXING LISTEN

A very special book, and an annual read since my mother gave it to me nearly 40 years ago! ❤️

Absolutely love this book!

The diary narrative of the book was most pleasing, as a native Englishwoman it brought back memories of happier times of childhood and young adulthood, spent growing up in the countryside. For others who have not been so lucky, I imagine it would sound like a foreign land, a quaint, rose tinted image of a bygone age.

The world has sadly changed a lot since the book was published, and it is now a nostalgic nod back to the days of church fetes, WI meetings, neighbourliness, so much is been lost with the way the world is fighting with itself now. It was nice to slip back into those days and remember a gentler time.

I felt the narration was very flat and monotonous, which is a shame. No gaiety in the voice, rather ‘preachy’! I see another reviewer compared it to a Linda Snell monologue - a little harsh, but somewhat true.

Frustratingly there is no PDF of the recipes to download as an adjunct to the book - a missed opportunity - it would have been lovely to have the recipes made easily accessible in this way, especially as I suspect a large number of listeners may also be country-dwelling WI members. I’d recommend the book to read but not this audible version.

Lovely content but a bit dated now (written 35 years ago!) and the narration makes the author sound a bit smug. Grated on my nerves at times.
