This one took me by surprise, and another example how a skilled writer can turn even a well trodden trope into a new experience!

The premise is simple, Luke finds a mysterious box at a sale and what does he do? You guessed it right, he just goes and opens it, even if his adorable dog tried in every way possible to warn him (this is a trigger warning for animal death). What follows is a true haunting from an evil demon that is insatiable in its thirst for carnage. The scenes are brutal and the pace is fast, reflecting the savagery of the entity.

What makes a difference in this book is that we still get to witness the main character’s point of view as he’s possessed, with all the internal push and pull, plus the other several POVs of other characters that will cross paths with Luke.

This is a demonic possession that freshens up the trope, satisfying the reader both for the story and the action. I truly recommend it if you like the subgenre. The narration by Sean Walpole was also really good.

I had the opportunity to listen to it and this is my honest opinion.

A fresh take on the possession trope
