In 1640, Alys Bailey was accused of witchcraft and sentenced to hang. Today, Alys is said to haunt Lockwood Hall, the Tudor manor house where she died.

When Nicole Rayburn travels to Lockwood Hall and begins to research Alys’s story for a new book, she discovers startling irregularities in Alys’s case. Nicole’s suspicions mount as every answer leads to more questions. What really happened to Alys? And what became of her son, who disappeared the day she was hanged? Could it be that Alys’s death was the result of a well-planned conspiracy, or is there another, less obvious answer? And who is trying to sabotage Nicole's efforts by stealing her work?

As Nicole delves deeper into Alys’s life, with the help of a handsome crime writer and a history-obsessed vicar, she comes to realize that “fake news” has been around for centuries, and that everyone has secrets. Once she finally learns Alys’s, Nicole’s life will never be the same.

Perfect for fans of Susanna Kearsley, Barbara Erskine, and Wendy Webb.

The story is ok and although there are some flaws it's worth listening to if you can get over the narration which is certainly not the best. The false Upper-class British accent grates after a while and is too forced and clipped but the narrator does not know how to pronounce some English words and place names.
she also makes every common person sound like they come from Merseyside rather than Derbyshire.

story is Ok

I cannot believe they allowed this person to narrate this and the other stories in this series.
What is wrong with her voice? It’s like AI narrating with a drunk, wobbly robot who has an American accent trying to be British!
The story was probably great as I love the author x

What is wrong with the narrator?

I'm not long into the story but have to agree with the other's reviews, the narration is dire. It wanders from an odd attempt at clipped Queen's English to who knows where, I couldn't work it out!

The narrators accent(s)!

Sloppy, lazy editing and horrifically bizarre narration! What on earth was the narrator thinking?! Do all men sound posh? Is she unable to ask others how to pronounce words she doesn’t know?

A good story but…

Really good story, liked the timeline jumps & characters. The narrators ascents were a little odd though… not quite sure where certain characters were meant to be placed. If you can get past that, then a truly enjoyable story unfolds.

Great story
