Summary

The world had teeth and it could bite you with them anytime it wanted. Trisha McFarland discovered this when she was nine years old. Trying not to be terrified. Trying not to think that sometimes when people got lost in the woods they got seriously hurt. Sometimes they died. And all because she needed to pee.

This is the story of a girl who gets lost on an outing in the Northeast woods. In her panic to get back on the track, she takes turnings which lead her deeper and deeper into the terrifying woods. With only a small amount of food and water in her knapsack, she begins to give up hope of ever getting out. Alive. The only thing that keeps her going is her Walkman on which she listens avidly to Red Sox baseball games, creating an imaginary friendship with her hero Tom Gordon. And as she struggles for survival and a way out, she realises she's not alone. There's something else in the woods, and it's watching her.

Great narrator, easy to follow and one of King's better books. Well worth the listen, I recommend.

As you may have noticed, I'm a big King fan. Yet another I've read before Audible. I would put this down as Psychological Horror like I did "The Long Walk," but in a totally different way. A 9 year old girl, lost in the woods, getting weaker and sicker. The thing I liked most about this was how I, the reader, couldn't tell sometimes what was really happening, and what was fever induced delirium . I like how it flicks back and forth between past and present, in other moments of her life, How her stereo is her comfort blanket. But I will say this, another one which bought tears to my eyes by the end. Horror fans? A deffinet recommend here.

Really sad, tense, and keeps you reading

I adore this book, it's a gripping story of survival which shines a light on human flaws that we are all guilty of and reflects what it is to be a child in the world (something of which we can all relate to in a sense.

Suspence, anger, desperation and survival from the monster stalking you in the woods. A brilliant 6 hours horror by Stephen King
