The Dartford Crossing: a vital transport hub connecting Kent and Essex, the busiest river crossing in Europe, and the site of some of the most vicious organised crime today...

For the last decade, there has been a intense turf war in the south-east of England between two sets of criminal gangs:

On one side, there's the 'Establishment' - the old-school firms that have operated for decades and weaved their way into all areas of their communities. On the other, 'The New Kids on the Bloc' - mainly Eastern European gangs
who have muscled in, boasting they'll crush anyone in their way and dominate the British underworld.

The Dartford Crossing, due to its location between London and the ports of the south-east, has become the epicentre of these battles.

Since Brexit began, the war has become even bloodier as both gangs try to claim new territory before the borders close. In an already terrifying and volatile world of drug smuggling, people trafficking, prostitution and money laundering, all rules are out and the body count is rising...

With research and interviews from both sides conducted by one of true crime's most established names, The Crossing is a ground-breaking and fascinating look inside the UK's newest crime phenomenon.

fascinating and eye opening, what a mess we are in! and that is before Brexit! amazing narration ...the best I've ever experienced in an audiobook, how we moved seemlessly between characters and accents is superb and really takes you with him. Highly recommended

Stunning expose into a world I didn't know existed

The story was fairly humdrum and trotted along but at no great pace and was mundine. The narrator was reasonable, though I'm not sure why he tried the accents of people that he was pretending to be. He often tried an eastern European accent which usually sounded poor and often tailed off and disappeared altogether. Given that he was speaking only three or four sentences for that person, it would have made more sense if he had simply carried on in his own voice and said will needed but without trying to affect the accent. It also seemed as a whole to be fairly bloated and take too long. For example, the crossing was explained at the outset as being the so-called Bermuda triangle at Kent, Essex, and London. And this was covered by the Queen Elizabeth II bridge. However, following this explanation, the name of the bridge and the locations of the crossing were constantly repeated when they didn't need to be. it was ok at best and whilst I would listen to another one, I wouldn't miss it if I don't and I probably wouldn't buy another by this author

OK but not grrat

Have always known that the area was infiltrated by organised crime, but this is a real eye opener. Very worrying to learn the extent of underworld activity of foreign crime and how it has taken over from local criminals.

A chilling story of a place very close to home.

A really fascinating story, well told and narrated. Opens up a whole new world that exists around the Color’s song and a real insight into Eastern European crime gangs, ethics and families.
Very well narrated and the characters are well explained and voiced. Very enjoyable.

Fascinating and eye opening

Excellently read by Jo Dow. A good voice and easy to listen to. An interesting tale to those innocent of the criminal underworld, of which I am one. The book states that the Eastern European criminals in UK are predominantly Catholic and Muslim ''an odd combination''. The main criminal ethnicities spoken about in the book aren in fact Eastern Orthodox, not Catholic. maybe i have spent too much time living in the Balkans to have noticed this!
This has been well researched and the author managed to gain the confidence of many criminals to write this book. Well done.

What an eye-opener
