Story good. Reading annoying, far too many He said, She said made it impossible to finish which was very upsetting

The number of She said, He said ruined the book

The series is enjoyable, covering some contemporary social issues as well crime. The characters are well created, all of them being credible and (mostly) empathetic. Frequently, lead male detectives are portrayed as hard-bitten, divorced and heavy drinkers. Sally Rigby portrays her lead female characters as high-achievers professionally, but dismal with personal relationships. They both appear unapproachable to potential partners, which lacks depth in developing their personalities. Sally Rigby's attention to detail with soft furnishings is quaint and is one of the aspects that gives the books a soft focus. The narration is competent, but lacks a sharp edge. The characters could be enhanced if the voices were better defined. I found that accents and emphasis were indistinct. It did not actually detract from the overall performance, but there is room for improvement. I would recommend the series to other readers, although it is described as Cavendish & Walker. At the risk of being pedantic, Walker is the lead character as SIO and Cavendish is her supporting character. It's a bit like writing Lewis & Morse.

Walker & Cavendish?

Once you’ve read these three books by Sally Rigby you’ll appreciate the title of this review. Great story lines in each book with general features continuing throughout them all. Slightly eccentric characters and a very down to earth detective chief inspector in the lead role I loved the books and recommend

We need more bodies
