What I like about this book is that it does not rush. It focuses on the characters and how they change. It balances scary survival situations with deep and real feelings. The real transformation is when Ayla starts as a normal girl working as an innkeeper. She does not suddenly become a perfect warrior overnight. She has to work hard, make mistakes and grow stronger over time. Great tension between Ayla, Ret it creates a lot of exciting and hidden tension that keeps you hooked on the story. What stands out to me is the main journey that’s called the Gloamroad Trials everyone in the world thinks it is a holy magical mission. The journey is actually a total lie. I think fans of dark survival trials and classic high fantasy romance like The Hunger Games meets The Lord of the Rings would enjoy it
