About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

A deeply moving and insightful collection of personal essays from #1 bestselling author John Green, adapted from his critically acclaimed podcast.

The Anthropocene is the current geological age, in which human activity has profoundly shaped the planet and its biodiversity. In this remarkable symphony of essays adapted and expanded from his groundbreaking podcast, John Green reviews different facets of the human-centered planet - from the QWERTY keyboard and Staphylococcus aureus to the Taco Bell breakfast menu - on a five-star scale.

Complex and rich with detail, the Anthropocene's reviews have been praised as 'observations that double as exercises in memoiristic empathy.' John Green's gift for storytelling shines throughout this artfully curated collection that includes both beloved essays and all-new pieces exclusive to the book.

Can't fault it, but this is exactly my kind of story right now. I'm a big fan of John and the anthropocene reviewed podcast. The book pulls existing and new reviews into a beautifully cohesive whole. Reviewing this book on a 5 star scale feels very different this time round, as much as giving 5 stars feels strange, giving less would feel unfair.

Just what I needed.

My anxiety is eased when listening to this book. I can't recommend it enough.

A calming perspective of a turbulent time

So many stories of this strange era of history, with large concepts like coronavirus and specific things like a particular song, all melded together with personal anecdotes and quotes from other people, to create an engaging record of humanity's impact on this planet and its life. It's wonderful to hear John narrating his own words, and one chapter in particular really benefits (heartbreakingly) from the audio medium. I give this audiobook of The Anthropocene Reviewed five stars.

I’m so very glad that John is on the planet at this time & can put down his thoughts and feelings, because they capture so much.

It’s been nearly 3 years since Covid hit the world, and a lot of the horrors about how it feels to be in the world hit by a pandemic, is laid out here. But there are also other stories looking at many aspects of how we live in the modern world. I love the book, it made me smile, and it made the tears flow. I’m very glad John is here & writing it down, because I did not have the words & now I do. Thank you John.
