Summary

In this thrilling Star Trek: Discovery novel, Commander Michael Burnham is thrust into a distant future shaped by catastrophe, where Starfleet has fallen, and survival depends on forging new alliances across an unknown galaxy.

In a desperate attempt to stop a rogue artificial intelligence from destroying all sentient life, Burnham used the Red Angel suit to guide the USS Discovery safely into the future. But something went wrong. She arrives alone—more than nine hundred years beyond her time—with no sign of her crew and no clear path home.

In this unrecognizable future, a mysterious event known as “the Burn” has shattered the United Federation of Planets and nearly wiped out Starfleet. Stranded in a fractured galaxy, Burnham must navigate unfamiliar worlds, shifting loyalties, and dangerous new threats.

As she searches for answers and any trace of the Discovery, Burnham builds fragile alliances and confronts the far-reaching consequences of a universe forever changed. What remains of Starfleet? Who can she trust? And how can she survive long enough to reunite with her crew?

Packed with action, exploration, and high-stakes adventure, this gripping space opera expands the Star Trek universe with time travel, artificial intelligence, and first contact in a bold new era.

Another great Star Trek story by Una McCormack. flashes out the 'post burn' universe very nicely.

great and a must listen for any Discovery fan! Michael Burnham's lost year away from Discovery, more than an explanation of the slightly unfamiliar attitude that we find her having when reunited with her ship mates in the 3rd episode of season three.

This book felt like an old friend. I wanted to go back to it time and again. The voice acting was superb - January really gave each character a different accent and personality to make it come alive. The book itself was engaging, filling the gap between seasons, but it felt like this was a story that had to be told. About Michael’s struggles, about her becoming more human. She became more real to me, after listening to this. Fantastic book.

One of the best Star Trek books I've ever read - January lavoy was amazing, her narration makes the story and characters come alive. It would be good if she were the sole narrator for every Star Trek book. The story has plenty of twists and turns and the characters are deep and fleshed out in an detailed and intimate manner. I would highly recommend anyone interested in the Star Trek universe to read this book.

absolutely amazing brilliant book

I really enjoyed the story but for me it read a bit like a woman’s magazine story “rather flowery”.
Burnham was a lot tougher in earlier books, her attitude and decision making was much more Vulcan than this version .

Great story writing a bit flowery
