About this listen
When Chloe turns the key to Small Angels, the church nestled at the edge of Mockbeggar Woods where she is to be married, she is braced for cobwebs and dust. What she doesn't expect are the villagers' concerned faces, her fiancé's remoteness, or the nagging voice in her head that whispers to her of fears she didn't even know she had.
Something in the woods is beginning to stir, to creep closer to the sleeping houses. Something that should have been banished long ago.
Whatever it is, it's getting stronger, and pretending it's not there won't keep the wedding, or the village - or Chloe - safe.

Critic reviews
A twisting gothic tale of darkness, intrigue, heartbreak and revenge... gorgeously atmospheric and gripping! (Jennifer Saint, author of ARIADNE)
Beautiful and frightening, SMALL ANGELS is both ghost story and love ballad to the art of story-telling. Lauren Owen has written a true page-turner. This book will haunt and bewitch you (A J Gnuse, author of THE GIRL IN THE WALLS)
Small Angels is beautiful in every way - atmospheric, eerie, elegantly written. An intricately woven tale of characters haunted by love and pain, revenge and courage. It is a stunning book, perfect for lovers of folklore and gothic fiction (Elizabeth Lee, author of CUNNING WOMEN)
A suspenseful, gloriously atmospheric first novel, and a feast of gothic storytelling that is impossible to resist
A sly and glittering addition to the literature of the macabre... As soon as you have breathed with relief, much worse horrors begin
Macabre, readable and atmospheric
Hauntingly atmospheric and beautifully written, this story of bewitchment and revenge weaves a spell over you, and won't quite let go (Susan Stokes-Chapman)
Lauren Owen's second novel has a perfect Gothic setting: Mockbeggar Woods, a place as brooding and ominous as the Brontes' moors... This beautifully written modern ghost story is an enchanting place to get lost (Danielle Trussoni)
A folk-horror blend of murder ballad and ghost story, for fans of Joanne Harris and Andrew Michael Hurley

The problem with this book is that , it’s it’s own plot spoiler. Because the spooky supernatural bits is explained at the beginning there’s no mystery or any real surprises and not much for the caricatures to do except sit around telling each other stories that only add detail to event the reader already knows about and get menaced by the supernatural entity the reader already also knows about, long winded and boring
Disappointed
