The Ghosts of the Tanith First-and-Only have been away from the front line for too long. Listless and hungry for action, they are offered a mission that perfectly suits their talents.

The objective: the mysterious Salvation's Reach, a remote and impenetrable stronghold concealing secrets that could change the course of the Sabbat Worlds campaign. But the proposed raid is so hazardous, it's regarded as a suicide mission, and the Ghosts may have been in reserve for so long they've lost their edge. Haunted by spectres from the past and stalked by the Archenemy, Colonel-Commissar Gaunt and his Ghosts embark upon what could be their finest hour...or their final mission.

why have they replaced a narrator who could do subtle Irish accent for the characters with this one who gives silly voices to long running characters ?

terrible narrator

like most others, i love the series but this book is just ruind by the narrator. and I don't blame him for that, I blame the ones deciding who's reading what book. all the voices are wrong, not even a bit close to Toby's. I'm not sure why this decision was made but it really ruined the book. honestly, making male warrior characters sound like an old witch from a Disney movie.... cmon! someone should be put up on charges for this!

why would you change the narrator after so many books...

I loved the story but the narrator is awful. the space marine sounds ridiculous and Larkin is just plain irritating

great story, awful narration

Good story but the performance made it a labor to finish. The narrator's range and tone of the important characters is very bad.

Good story, bad rendition

I know this book released first, before books 1 to 12. The story is excellent, but having listened to them in order, the narration change is a jarring experience. So much of a change, that for the first several hours I couldn't concentrate on anything, except the accent and pronunciation changes.

If you also come to this book after listening to the first twelve, which were narrated by the ever excellent Toby Longworth, I imagine you will be shocked at the change too. Don't even try to get used to what voice is who's, it won't do you any good. They're pretty much all Scottish now, which kind of suits the Tanith, but you won't agree with any of the voice differences, especially when you hear what Larkin sounds like now, for the love of the God Emperor, what did he do to poor Larkin?

If all the books were done by this narrator, we wouldn't be complaining, but they're not, and we have to suffer for most of the last 4 books. Consider yourself warned!

Excellent Story, narration not good for those coming from previous books.
