This was a re-read on audio for me. It's still my favourite of the trilogy, even better brought to life by Allen Walker's narration! Allen's range in voices is very very close to that of Steven Pacey and not so far from Jeff Hays either, in my opinion. I liked his renditions of Bagsac, Galdor, Gnorn and Orvandil the most, but the elf was pretty cool too. The female characters' voices felt quite natural again, though I think they had less "page time" in this instalment.

Already being familiar with the story, and having re-read it in a much shorter timespan, I particularly appreciated the (spiritual) transformations the characters experienced as well as the thematic exploration, this time around. While there's still plenty of action, I prefer the more equal balance between quieter moments and battle scenes, compared to book 2.

I'm pretty sure I realised it already on my first read, but apart from similarities to Avatar the Last Airbender, there's quite some thematic and spiritual overlap with Fullmetal Alchemist (Brotherhood), my favourite anime of all time (if you don't count Avatar as anime). After One Piece, Philip should really pick that one up, I'm sure it would resonate a lot with him!
