About this listen

“It's like he thought it was going to be some epic odyssey, but in reality it's just a man in his 40s standing in a Wiltshire field saying, 'Yeah, this looked better when I was fifteen.’"

In the 1990s, a teenage Steve Higgins was obsessed with UFOs. He spent his weekends cutting out newspaper clippings, watching 'The X-Files', and tramping through Wiltshire fields in search of crop circles. Decades later, he sets out to see if that old spark is still there.

'My UFO Youth' follows Steve's journey across Britain as he revisits the places that defined his teenage fascination — from Rendlesham Forest and Avebury to the hills above Warminster. Along the way, he meets the people keeping the UFO flame alive: skywatchers, researchers, eccentrics, and true believers who still gather under the stars hoping for something unexplainable.

Part travelogue, part personal rediscovery, this is an honest and humorous road trip through Britain's UFO history. Whether you're a believer, a sceptic, or just curious about why people still chase lights in the sky, this book takes you there — binoculars, camper van, and all.

This book isn't really about hunting UFOs, it's about trying to recapture that feeling you have had as a kid that there's a lot of strange stuff out there in the world, and maybe you'll get the chance to witness it. This is a personal take from a UK writer, accompanied by friends, it follows his trips round the UK to attempt to reconnect with his experiences as a teenager. A fun listen, light-hearted, some good, and some not so good, attempts at local accents in the UK. I really enjoyed it!
