About this listen

A heartbroken widow. A suspicious accident. And a cat who always trusts his instincts.

Mallory Beck never thought delivering a casserole could get her tangled up in murder. But when a routine act of kindness leads her straight into the heart of the Montrose family’s secrets, Mallory finds herself in the middle of a mystery with more layers than her lasagna.

Still reeling from her husband’s sudden passing, Mallory is just starting to rebuild—one home-cooked meal at a time. But when a teenage girl loses her father in a supposed hit-and-run, Mallory can’t shake the feeling that something's not right. Especially after Hunch, her prickly but perceptive cat, takes an unusual interest in the grieving household—and in the widow who seems just a little too composed.

As whispers turn into clues and casseroles into conversations, Mallory—with Hunch never far from her side—begins to unravel a tangled web of lies, family resentments, and long-buried secrets.

If you love feel-good whodunits, intuitive pets, and heroines finding strength in second chances, you’ll feel right at home in Honeysuckle Grove.

You don't have to go the extra mile to find a good book.
I have enjoyed books by this author before but not one from this series, so when I saw I could enjoy the audio book version, I jumped at the chance. So glad I did because I really enjoyed it.

It was an unusual way for the main character to get involved in the case and I liked the refreshing approach of the main character not being a suspect. It also helped that I liked the characters. I wasn't sure about Mallory because after the death of her husband, let's face it she was depressed and cozy's mysteries are ment to be a fun read, where you can forget about your own troubles and get lost in somebody elses. Yes I know they usually involve a murder but that doesn't count when no one liked the victim anyway. However after meeting a young teenager, Mallory really came into her own and I liked who she turned into. The crime solving cat, with a nose for trouble and a big attitude helped too. The mystery kept me guessing and interested as it all unfolded. Will definitely be checking out more book in this series, especially if they are audio books.

After the tragic death of her husband, Mallory decides she has to learn to face the world again, without him by her side. The best way to do that is to start small and slip into and out of a church service unnoticed. Unfortunately for her when a family suffers the tragedy of losing a family member and nobody volunteers to take them food, she finds herself raising her hand. Dropping of the casserole she finds the wife dressed to the nines with not a tear insight, a teenage boy who is glad his father is dead and a teenage girl with questions nobody is answering. Mallory finds herself only wanting to one help one. Can she help the teenage daughter Amber find the answers she needs? As Mallory asks the questions the police should have asked, the more Mallory believes Amber might be right and there is more to the hit and run death of her father. Can a widow, a teenage girl, a grumpy cat and an ignored police officer find the truth?
I liked the narrator. She made the characters come to life by providing them with individual voices and personalities that made it a pleasure to listen too.
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
