I did this one as a mixed read of both aperback and audio and honestly, the immersive combo made me fall even harder for Scarlett and Tate. Their story feels a little different to most of the other Lancaster books, but in the best way. It gave me those Weston x Carolina vibes, where the MMC is instantly hooked and the FMC just… isn’t. At least not at first. I loved that Tate couldn’t wrap his head around someone not falling at his feet like everyone else does. Watching him actually have to work for her affections was so satisfying. I was chuckling early on in this one.
These two together were great to read. I could’ve happily eaten up another 100 pages of them just existing, bickering, supporting each other, and holding their own against the chaos of their world. One of my favourite parts was how fiercely they stood by each other. It made their relationship feel solid, believable, and genuinely sweet beneath all the drama.
And the audio? Perfection 👌 CJ Bloom and Teddy Hamilton brought so much emotion and chemistry to the story. Definitely one of those audiobooks that enhances the whole experience.
If you love fake dating, loyal characters, and a MMC who falls first (and hard), this one is such a win. As always, I love a Monica Murphy book!
