Doug Johnstone ticks lots of boxes for me, the politics, pro refugee, pro-Palestine, the music (love the Young Fathers) unusual detectives and shining a light on police corruption. So I’m not sure why the latest books are not hitting for me. Perhaps it’s the way things keep happening to them, which tends towards too much attention on male perpetrators and it sometimes veers between old fashioned ‘hard boiled’ (not my thing) and also philosophical woo-woo (also not my thing.) The narrator is so dreary I’m afraid.
