About this listen
Little Lord Fauntleroy (1886) is the first children's novel by the English American author Frances Hodgson Burnett. It tells the story of Cedric Errol, an impoverished American boy who is unexpectedly transplanted into the English aristocracy when he inherits the title Lord Fauntleroy. As the heir to an earldom and a vast estate, Cedric is educated as an English aristocrat by his grandfather, the earl of Dorincourt. At the same time, Cedric teaches his grandfather that an aristocrat should show compassion toward those dependent on him. Since Cedric believes his grandfather to be a kind man, the earl cannot disappoint him and becomes a benefactor to his tenants.
