Adventurer Lance Desmond needs to produce a fortune before his arch-rival collects the bounty on his head. He risks an ancient curse to retrieve treasure hidden within icebound Castle Cavanaugh, only to become trapped inside. Not with the gold he so desperately needs, but with medieval Princess Marigold who's been cooling her heels since . . . well, medieval times.
The lonely princess refuses to acknowledge the blossoming attraction between them. Not just because she deserves a better future than a penniless rogue. But because at midnight, he'll vanish like all her other would-be heroes. And the evergreen in the parlor will have one more figurine hanging from its boughs . . .

The story is charming and intimate, with plenty of smiles and lighthearted moments, but it also carries its share of bittersweet emotion. Princess Marigold is a wonderfully layered character; strong, resilient, and shaped by the hardships she’s endured, yet still retaining warmth and charm. Lance Desmond is the perfect hero; thoughtful, caring, and willing to risk everything to protect her, even if it means letting her go. Their dynamic; the awkward yet compelling meeting of past and present, is handled with humor and grace, keeping the story playful while still meaningful.
The pacing is fast and engaging, with just the right touch of magic to make the fairy-tale elements feel alive. It’s a sweet, uplifting read that balances humor, sorrow, and romance, leaving a satisfying sense of closure for both characters. A fun, feel-good novella that’s a perfect palate cleanser; 4 stars from me!

*Minor spoilers ahead*
Princess Marigold is trapped in an enchanted castle time loop that repeats the same day over and over. And it turns out it’s been 600 years. Everyone who enters after the legend of the magical valuable flower ends up trapped and is erased from existence. So when Lance enters… Princess Marigold tries not to get attached. But the two instantly connect, and their attempts at resist are inevitably futile and they “ahem” come together. It’s not that spicy with just two scenes and it’s fairly mild. As I said the plot was really good for a short story and I really enjoyed it! It has an adorable HEA. I only wish it was longer! Or had a direct sequel.
