About this listen

In the summer of 1893, Rudyard Kipling had an Indian-style house built in the wilds of Vermont. Naulakha, the name he gave his new home, became part of the legend of Kipling's creative life. It was here that he wrote his most famous work: The Jungle Book, and his best-known poem If.

Here too was born the narrative poem Gunga Din and a host of other much-beloved books, including Captains Courageous,The Day’s Work, Kim, The Seven Seas and The Just So Stories. Edited and introduced by Tim Dalgleish, this book uncovers the foundations beneath some of Kipling's most enduring works.
