I couldn't get past the awful put-on voices for the male characters. would have been much better with just a straight read

Val is a Scottish author with significant parts of the book set in Scotland. Why could the narrator not take the time to find out how to pronounce words like 'bothy' and 'Kirkcaldy'. The narration was littered with these errors which distracted from what is a good book. Not Val's best - but still worth a listen.

For a book partially set in Scotland and by a Scottish writer you'd have thought the words
Bothy and Kirkcaldy and a few others might have been pronounced properly.
and do coppers still call suspects chummy? it seems a bit stale.

‘bored by the McDermid formula now, but that’s my issue, ‘well-written if this kinda thing is your bag.

This was my first Val McDiarmid book. It kept me guessing without being pantomime like.

The narrator did a great job with accents & reading coded text. I'll even forgive her for how poorly she pronounced Garda Síochána.
