You're about to die. What would your final meal be?
This question has long troubled Jay Rayner. As a man more obsessed with his lunch than is strictly necessary, the idea of a showpiece last supper is a tantalising prospect. But wouldn't knowledge of your imminent demise ruin your appetite?
So, Jay decided to cheat death.
The plan was simple: he would embark on a journey through his life in food in pursuit of the meal to end all meals. It's a quest that takes him from necking oysters on the Louisiana shoreline to forking away the finest French pastries in Tokyo, and from his earliest memories of snails in garlic butter, through multiple pig-based banquets, to the unforgettable final meal itself.
My Last Supper is both a hugely entertaining account of a life built around mealtimes and a fascinating global exploration of our relationship with what we eat. It is the story of one hungry man, in eight courses.

He has a great sense of humour and it came out with the usual dryness

I like Jay Rayner, it was good hearing the author speaking his own words

Very enjoyable light read (I needed a break from heavy history books etc). Also gives some insight into his mother Claire Rayner’s life, which I found interesting, having grown up seeing her on TV. I love hearing Jay’s somewhat forthright opinions on all aspects of life (although his conclusions about gender/abuse in one section struck me as somewhat naive and un-nuanced). Recommended easy read.

Very entertaining and easy listening

I really enjoyed this book. It had humour, sadness and a real thought behind how we should all approach a last meal

Great book, humour and insight

This was so much fun to listen to, brilliantly read by the author. His life based around food, with details about provenance sustainability and taste are so interesting and often so amusing. I might listen to it all over again.

Totally engaging for foodie people

My first Jay Rayner listen and I can safely say It will be the first of many. Rayner's skills here as a master of journalistic storytelling are apparent. Really loved it and extra points for performing it himself.

Just a lovely listen.
