'Captivating' - New Scientist
'A wondrous work of walking, seeing and thinking' - Robert Macfarlane
'A startlingly brilliant and moving debut' - William Dalrymple
A deep observation of coast and wetland, climate and self, by a leading Indian ecological activist.
Introduction by Robert Macfarlane.
Written in spellbinding prose, Intertidal reveals an unseen world. We hear frog calls through the night, spot butterflies miles into the ocean, see the churning of longshore currents, and meditate on worms' composting abilities. We also witness communities standing together to preserve the homes of the coast's inhabitants, both human and non-human.
Intertidal asks us to reimagine values to live by; heeding the natural world, attending to the climate's calling, and moving away from the old political and cultural values that have proven ecologically disastrous. Set in beaches, marshes, and the wild places of the mind, Intertidal revels in the healing power of nature and explores what it means to reclaim an ecology that has been colonised.

Critic reviews
'Gentle and poetic, subtle, watchful and observant, writing very much in the tradition of Robert Macfarlane and haunted by the ghosts of Barry Lopez and J.A. Baker. This is a startlingly brilliant and moving debut' (William Dalrymple)
Its intensity of vision' and stylistic flair reminds me of J.A. Baker's The Peregrine, and its democratic, inclusive account of ecology reminds me of Nan Shepherd's The Living Mountain. Intertidal is a wondrous work of walking, seeing and thinking' (Robert Macfarlane)
'The precision of his prose works like a hymn and a lament and a call to both attention and action' (Pádraig Ó'Tuama)
'Intertidal is the dazzling outcome of deep observation and magical writing. It reveals the wondrous diversity of liminal ocean life, and radiates into a fervent meditation on human consciousness itself' (Colin Thubron)
'An impressive debut from an outstanding new author - a wonderfully thoughtful book' (Peter Frankopan)
'A fine book' (Bruce Pascoe)
At first I struggled to get an idea of the book as lacking the full title, it's seems to have a bit less coherence in the early chapters. However the writing improves as the days progress and soon you are eager to get back to the places and hear about the wildlife.
The narrator too grows in confidence and gives a excellent pace and tone.
The book also has a guided meditation for each chapter, giving you plenty to think about, even if you don't perform them.
A wonderful listen, peaceful and relaxing.

I enjoyed the mix of meditation, facts, familial background and philosophy in this ever changing narrative and its revelations concerning new understandings and balances within the socio ecotones - the implications from this relatively small area are worldwide.
Having listened I immediately bought a hard copy to study more carefully, unfortunately the book format lacks both index and bibliography.
Important book

Superior book but awful narration mainly due to narrators lack of Tamil knowledge
