In addition to strength, steel, and courage, a hero discovers he's in need of a friend, in the first installment of a daring and dangerous fantasy adventure.

When it comes to action and adventure, every hero needs a good sidekick. Holmes has Watson, Batman has Robin, and Daniel has...Orrin. More like brothers than friends, they always have each other's backs. And as Daniel is the big, strong, handsome type, Orrin is more than happy to remain in his shadow at school, at parties, pretty much everywhere.

Then things take a turn for the truly weird when a terrible accident catapults the pair into a world totally unlike their own, in which the rules of a role-playing game hold sway. Naturally, Daniel is classified as a "hero," while Orrin is—also naturally—relegated to the fantasy equivalent of "bleh." Nothing new there.

But in this realm populated with lethal foes both inhuman and inescapable, sticking together matters more than ever, and soon Daniel and Orrin will discover more about themselves—and each other—than either one thought possible. In fact, Orrin just might find the confidence and strength to become something other than your average sidekick....

The first volume of the hit LitRPG fantasy series—with more than 600,000 views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

Overall the story is good. The audiobook version does a weird call out of abilities, skills and classes every time the word appears, even if it’s in the middle of a frase a character is saying, it switches from the character voice to the system voice. I find it hard to describe how annoying that is.

Entertaining story but a bad audiobook narration

The only downside to this listen was like all reviews say HERO and TELEPORT and other skills are said different. But saying this I believe it's done like this to make it sound like an old computer game.

good story line

Over all I enjoyed the book and plan on getting the next one. My only complaint is the same as everyone else. For some reason all the skill names have been previously recorded and, whenever someone says the name, it just gets superimposed over it. For example, at one point one of the characters says hero and the narrator says he says it in a sarcastic way, while wiggling his eyebrows, but because they used the prerecorded hero it sounds like a robot. It's like they used an AI to find every time the word hero is used and to replace it with the prerecorded one regardless of the context, and it's the same with all the skills. Really annoying but if you can get past it it's a good book.

Why do they do that?

I really don't understand why the narrator emphasises the character skills really loud almost like the skills have been dumbed in its beyond irritating

Solid story

loved that the characters that were portrayed as intelligent were infact actually intelligent amd capable, hate it when a book says a character is smart then they proceed to to the most stupid things

Smart characters
