In November 2014 Arla Macleod bludgeoned her mother, father and sister to death with a hammer.

Now incarcerated at a medium-security mental-health institution, Arla will speak to no one but Scott King, an investigative journalist, whose Six Stories podcasts have become an Internet sensation.

King finds himself immersed in an increasingly complex case, interviewing five witnesses and Arla herself as he questions whether Arla's responsibility for the massacre was a diminished as her legal team made out.

Absolutely incredible. Gripping, fascinating to the end. One of those books you can’t put down and left me feeling emotionally drained and more than a little indignant. Beautifully crafted blending reality with fiction seamlessly. I think I might have just found my new favourite author...

Wonderfully written and utterly heartbreaking. A must read!

Wow this book is brilliant from start to finish. The story and the narration. This came up as a recommendation from Audible which I thought I'd give a go and so glad I did! I went on to buy the first Six Stories book by this author which is also brilliant, although this has the edge for me personally. I am now waiting in anticipation for Matt Wesolowski's third book (due out in November I believe)! Highly recommended if you like a good mystery with a distinctly creepy edge!

This is now one of my favourite books ever!

This is a very very modern story, referring to recent events and trends. This has been marked down by other reviewers I think because of expectation. This is not an audiobook in the traditional sense, but is more of an audio drama in the style of a podcast or radio interview documentary. That bits of the story are revealed by different characters and their own point of view makes this a good thinking tale in which, as Mr King who narrates the podcast says, he is just laying it all out for us, the audience, to make up our own minds. It is chilling and its final chapter should make everyone think about our own attitudes towards celebrity; freedom of speech; trolling; perceptions of evil; perceptions of mental illness; religion; familial abuse; sexual violence; victim blaming...

This is an excellent and well told story that is well worth a listen or two and really does make you think.

An excellent drama told via the medium of podcast

With a plot worthy of a Tana French mystery I really enjoyed this and didn’t see the reveals coming.
The audiobook has good production values but for some reason the characters who are all supposed to be working class kids in their mid 20s sound like 45 yr old classically trained stage actors, which made it difficult to fully engage with the story- could have done with being more raw.

Great story, jarringly cast

Great voice acting, and with a few twists thrown in, this book is well worth a listen.

Unexpectedly satisfying
