Clyde Hatchett has known he's had a corpse-king inside him, slowly trying to take over his body and raise an army of undead for a while now. And while that may seem like a rather, um, urgent matter to attend to, it's only now, after being forced out of Glaton by his best friends and then having to rescue someone's sister from a bad marriage, that he's actually in a place to deal with it. 

And he better deal with it quickly, since his entire left hand is starting to look like it belongs to the Crypt-Keeper. 

But Gloomguard, where the mage Clyde needs lives, operates on a completely different plane than anywhere else in Vuldranni. Everyone is out for themselves, and there's no such thing as doing a favor. So in order to even talk to the mage, Clyde must embark on a series of preposterous quests he doesn't have time for and isn't guaranteed to survive.

I realize making money is nice and all, but this was half a book. It's a theme in Ugland's books that they can end a bit abruptly, but this is the first time i was like "is that it?".

So you remember the end of the last book, right? You know, he got to that new town/fort that has a hole in the ground that he needs to descend? Well in summary, this book is:

"Man-guy continues walking into town, then does the required quest to be allowed into said hole and finally, when in hole, does a little minor exploration. The End". Seriously. Nothing really happens beyond that.

There are of course a few happenings towards the end that i wont spoil, but beyond getting from the front door of the town and into the hole, no real progress is made. Actual exploration / finishing the business in the hole (he has to talk to somebody) is apparently for another book. I just hope that one actually resolves something.

My experience is that I have been reading a web-series and the author just gave up in the middle... or got run over by a bus :-|

I will of course be reading/listening to the next one, but i would appreciate a bit "more".

Despite the overall quality of this series (and its sibling) I can't recommend reading this book until the next one is out as well.
